It seems Ryan Gosling has been keeping a well-hidden secret from the world, because not only is he a brilliant actor but he apparently he had hopes to become a singer, missing out on a chance to become a member of the Backstreet Boys.
According to AJ McLean, a member of the 90s boyband, Ryan was his childhood neighbour and had auditioned to become a part of the band but didn't believe the Boys would be successful and lost interest.

However, AJ reveals that when the band began to enjoy chart success with hits such as 'As Long As You Love Me' and 'Everybody (Backstreet's Back)', Ryan got in contact with hopes that he could become a sixth member and join AJ, Howie, Nick, Kevin and Brian, but his desperate pleas were met with silence.
"Ryan, I am so sorry that I didn't call you back... If we ever want a sixth Backstreet Boy member, I'm gonna call you. You can sing," AJ told TMZ.
"He can sing his ass off. He's not only a great actor and a handsome man."
While Ryan may have been gutted at the time, it was clearly not meant to be as he went on to launch a lucrative acting career, starring in hit movies such as The Notebook, Blue Valentine, Drive and most recently Gangster Squad, which has received rave reviews.

The Backstreet Boys became one of the biggest boybands of the 90s with two number one albums and several top 10 hits, but their career stalled in 2000 with their Black & Blue album.
The band are continuing to record music and recently embarked on a world tour with New Kids On The Block. Is there no end to Ryan's talents?!
