Demi Lovato's stint in rehab has had several positive benefits, and the star has revealed becoming a better girlfriend is one of them.

The X Factor judge check into a treatment programme in 2010 after suffering a breakdown while touring in South America.

Speaking exclusively to Cosmo On Campus, the 'Skyscraper' singer revealed that she learned in rehab not to make men the focus of her life and admits that she would often look for distractions in the opposite sex to overcome her loneliness.

"It is very unhealthy when girls devote all of their time to a guy and forget their friends and family.  I did that. I was always looking for distractions because I was so afraid of being alone," she told the glossy magazine.

Lovato reveals that she is much happier in herself and is now in a place "where I can finally trust and love and be a better person for the man I am in a relationship with, instead of being a clingy girlfriend or getting jealous."

The 20-year-old, who shocked the showbiz world when it was reported last month she is living in a sober house in Los Angeles in order to continue her sobriety, added that her priority now is "taking care of myself and not focusing on guys."
