Bruce Springsteen was named MusiCares 'Person of the Year' at a star-studded pre-Grammys event last night (Feb 8), as the likes of Sting and Neil Young watched on.

The annual event celebrates a particular star’s achievements and philanthropic work throughout the year and is hosted by Grammy organisers to kick start the Grammy weekend, with the awards being held in Los Angeles tomorrow night (Feb 10).

This year’s event saw Springsteen collect the honour for a number of charitable events including performing at the Hurricane Sandy charity concert in Madison Square Garden to raise money for the people affected.

As he collected his award, Bruce told the audience: “It’s kind of a freaky experience,” before going on to say the even was “like a huge Bar Mitzvah.”

The Boss then took to the stage to perform hits such as ‘Born to Run’ and ‘Glory Days’ accompanied by wife Patti Scialfa and his band.

Springsteen also offered a guitar lesson to the person that bought one of his guitars during a silent auction, which was purchased for £250,000, the Associated Press reports.

He said: “With this guitar comes one free guitar lesson with me."

"That's right, a one-hour guitar lesson with me," Springsteen shouted.

"And a ride in my Harley Davidson sidecar. So dig in, one-percenters."

The 63-year-old rocker is up for three Grammys including Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance.

Do you think Bruce will walk away with any of the above awards?
