The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton carried out her first public engagement since announcing her pregnancy in December yesterday visiting Action on Addiction centre, Hope House in London where she reportedly bonded with a mother over her pregnancy woes.

The 31 year-old was forced to announce her pregnancy at a very early stage after she was hospitalised for acute morning sickness in December. Visiting the house yesterday she opened up about her difficult pregnancy to one expectant mother receiving treatment at the women's addiction rehabilitation centre in South London.

Natalie, 28, who is expecting her second child in July, just like Kate chatted to the royal about her experiences. According to The Mirror, Natalie said: "We're due about the same time. She's been unwell and feeling better now and I felt pretty much the same the first time."

Speaking to the Duchess she explained: "This is my road to recovery. This is when I was in addiction, my life was in complete darkness and then gets a lot brighter."

With Kate replying: "Well done you for getting sober."

Afterwards Natalie said: "I've got to say I'm sober and clean. When I was in the darkness I never thought that would happen."

The visit might have been to raise awareness for the charity, of which the Duchess is patron, but the emergence of the royal showing off her growing baby bump in a Max Mara wrap dress stole the show.

Despite a storm this week over claims made by twice booker prize winner Hilary Mantel that Kate was “plastic” and a “mannequin” the brunette seemed happy to get back into the swing of royal public life.

Chief Executive of the charity, Nick Barton admitted she'd gone down a storm at the centre. He said: "She was wonderful with the clients. They fell in love with her. They opened up to her.

"She's such an easy person that they were talking to her in a very comfortable way, and I think surprised themselves at how easy that she made it for them."

He added: "She seemed in good spirits, in good health, and very comfortable."
