It's been a roller coaster week for Kate Middleton, who left behind her relaxing family break in Mustique to head back into the public eye. Whilst the Duchess sent us all into a frenzy when she debuted her baby bump, Hilary Mantel's criticisms sparked outrage worldwide, let's see exactly what's been going on...
Kate's week got off to a bad start when acclaimed writer Hilary Mantel, who is known for her novels revolving around the Royal court of Tudor times, gave a damning assessment of the Duchess labelling her as a “mannequin with no personality”.
The double booker prize winner gave her thoughts about the future queen during a London Review of Book lecture on Royal Bodies at the British Museum describing Kate as "a shop-window mannequin, with no personality of her own, entirely defined by what she wore.” The comments hit the headlines worldwide, even PM David Cameron waded in to defend poor Kate!
A day later and the Duchess showed no signs of upset when she marked her return to public duties with a visit to an Action on Addiction centre, in south London, a charity of which she is patron. Looking gorgeous in a MaxMara wrap dress (which subsequently sold out within hours!), the Duchess showed off a very tiny but definite baby bump as she chatted with the crowds and mums at the centre.

Back home after her busy day and it was claimed this week that Kate's doting husband Prince William has been bonding with his future baby.
"Wills has gone gaga at the thought of becoming a dad," revealed a long-time friend of the couple to Now. "He read somewhere that it's never too early to start talking to your baby and he's taken the advice to heart - even though it's not due until July."
Apparently music-lover William has even been singing to Kate's bump, "When he first sang Go To Sleep My Baby, Kate was almost in tears," revealed the friend. "It was so beautiful - a moment she says she'll never forget. Now it's become an almost daily ritual for Wills to chat to her bump and sing a lullaby or song."
Seriously cute! Here's hoping Wills can keep Kate's spirits up if Hilary Mantel decides to speak out again...
