Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins is set to stand trial in the summer over child sexual offence charges, including conspiracy to rape a baby.

The 35-year-old was due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday morning via videolink, but techinical issues meant the hearing did not go ahead and has now been adjourned until May.

Watkins stands accused of conspiracy to engage in sexual activities with a child under the age of 13 and four other offences of possessing or distributing indecent images of children and extreme animal pornography between May and December 2012.

A 24-year-old woman stands accused of the same offences as Watkins while a 20-year-old woman has been charged with five of the same offences but not conspiracy to rape a baby. One of the women appeared in court personally while the other was due to appear via videolink with Watkins.

Despite the hearing adjournment, Judge Eleri Rees set a date for the trial to commence the week beginning June 15 and informed the court that it could take up to three weeks.

A statement released by Watkins on his behalf said: “Mr Watkins furiously denies all of the charges and allegations made.

“He intends to fight to the bitter end to clear his name. He wishes to thank the fans, family and friends for the constant love and support they have given and continue to give throughout this testing time.”
