Ed Sheeran has confessed he felt like a "stud" when rumours started that he was dating his good mate Taylor Swift.
The speculation surrounding the two musicians started when Ed was spotted leaving Taylor's hotel room at 4am following The Brit Awards last month. Sources then spoke out suggesting Taylor had found love with Ed following her painful split with mutual friend Harry Styles.
“Taylor has always loved Ed to bits. He’s just an adorably sweet guy who makes her laugh and feel really confident,” a source told The Sun. "Harry had that irresistible bad boy thing but Taylor has realised she would rather give it a go with a guy who can make her happy on a different level.”
Sadly the romance rumours were swiftly denied, but Ed has now admitted that the speculation at least gave him some street cred with his mates.

In an interview for New Zealand broadcaster TVNZ, Sheeran admits: "I did go to her hotel, I did stay there 'til four and I did leave in the same clothes. But I was playing her my new record. It was strictly that kind of thing."
Ed insists he's "a professional" when the interviewer asked if he stole a kiss, adding:
"Literally, I went in there and we passed the guitar back and forth and played songs to each other."
Ed was far from annoyed by the media playing cupid though, saying that the rumours were so convincing even his close friends were fooled!
"The thing that impressed me with the media is that because they wrote about it, my mates believed it. And my mates are texting me being like 'is it true?' so I said it wasn't but the fact that people can believe it makes me feel like a bit of a stud, you know?!"
Ed says he had to come out and deny the rumours because of his friendship with Harry, insisting, "'I've got to be honest because one of my best friends did date her. I'm not that kind of guy. But the fact that people believed it impressed me a little bit."
So is there any chance of a romance in the future, especially as the pair will soon embark on a tour together. Ed laughs off the suggestion, pointing out: "Six months on the road with someone, that could get a bit awkward."
