Nicole Kidman Talks Peeing On Co-Star Zac Efron: 'The Sexuality Of It Was Frightening'

The actress didn't hold back in controversial scene from new film The Paperboy

Nicole Kidman admits she didn't hold back when it came to sharing bodily fluids with Zac Efron in their new film – even if it did stretch to peeing all over his body, yes really...

The 45-year-old actress features in a number of sexually charged scenes with hunky Zac in noir thriller The Paperboy, but nothing prepared her for the moment emotionally disturbed character Charlotte Bless has to pee on the former High School Musical star after his character gets stung by a jellyfish.

“I just went for it and didn't over think it,” she told the New Review. “I never get asked to do roles like that. It's a lot rawer than I've been before and obviously the sexuality of it was frightening.

“But at the same time it's my job as an actor to commit to the role and not – through my own inhibitions – run away.”

Nicole's role in director Lee Daniels' adaptation of the bestselling novel by Pete Dexter represents a further departure from the safe, mainstream roles of old - one that began in 2010 with her moving portrayal of a bereaved mum in Rabbit Hole.

“I'm just interested in things that are not so mainstream,” she said. “I like things that don't conform. I used to try to conform more and fit into an idea of what you're meant to be in terms of a film actress, but now I don't bother.

“I dig my heels in every now and then, and think: 'I'm not going to do what's expected or what people think is the right thing.' So I have a little bit of that in my personality.”

The film - which also stars Matthew McConaughey and Macy Gray - competed for the Palm d'Or at the 65th Annual Film festival last year and has won praise from critics since going on general release.
