After being left on the edge of their seats at the end of the last series, Game of Thrones fans have been eagerly counting down the days until the show returns and the war for the Iron Throne really begins.

And if the latest trailer is anything to go by, they certainly won't be left disappointed!

Two weeks before the highly-anticipated series 3 begins in the UK and the US, a 30-second clip, simply entitled War, has been posted online and guarantees that fans will be in for a treat as all corners of Westeros battle to be crowned ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.

It opens with an army lining up to do battle before it cuts to the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke who declares: "A man who fights for gold can't afford to lose to a girl."

Jon Snow is then heard saying his wants to "fight for the side that fights for the living" while Stannis Baratheon, a contender for the throne, adds: "I want Joffrey dead. I want Robb Stark dead", referring to those who stand in his way.

And Robb Stark, who is avenging his dead father and battling to be King, adds: "I won't stop until they have their justice."

The third season is based upon the first half of author George R. R. Martin’s A Sword of Storms, and was filmed in Northern Ireland, Iceland, Croatia and Morocco.

It debuts in the US on March 31 with British viewers feasting their eyes upon it the following evening.

And the award-winning show's producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss have told fans that the third season will be "super-sized..

"[It will be] a super-sized season, as befitting Storm of Swords," Benioff said. "Last year we had a lot of 52-minute episodes. This year is a lot of 56, 57."
