Mischa Barton has discussed her battle with depression, saying she now considers herself "one of the happiest people".
The actress, who shot to fame on The OC, has said that she is in a much happier place now than she was in 2009, when she was admitted to a psychiatric ward following a breakdown. She was sectioned under the US equivalent of the Mental Health Act.
Prior to that, she was charged with marijuana possession and DUI, leading to a stint in a rehab facility.
She is quoted by Closer as saying: "It was one thing after another and it led to a pretty reasonable breakdown. I suffer from depression.

"That stuff happened so long ago it, it’s irrelevant… it seems silly to talk about it. It’s just a natural progression in life. I’ve grown."
She thinks she has got older and wiser, calling herself one of the chirpiest people she knows now "As you get older, things just calm down. I’m probably one of the happiest people and my outlook on life is positive," she said.
Alluding to her boyfriend Sebastian Knapp, she added: "I’ve always had a great support network around me. Having people who love you is more important than anything, whether the public is busy loving you or not at the moment.
"I have stayed relatively strong because I’ve got these people."
Asked what her advice would be to others, she said: "Be cautious of the people around you."
