The British actor will shake off his nice guy image for new meaty role

Colin Firth looks like the likely candidate to bring Mathew Vaughn’s movie adaption of the novel The Secret Service, written by Colin Millar, to the big screen after being drafted in as its leading man.

The British actor appears to have been cast in the upcoming flick due to start production in August later this year.

The story follows M16 spy Uncle Jack, who takes his deadbeat nephew Gary under his wing in the hopes of motivating him to become a super spy just like him.

Author Millar describes The Secret Service as "...James Bond meets My Fair Lady."

If the rumours are true, the 52-year-old star will join actor Mark Hamil on the new project, who has already confirmed as a cast member.

Firth’s role as a hardened spy will be a welcomed change from the nice guy image he often portrays in movies.

Uh oh! Should Daniel Craig be worried? We've got a nagging feeling Firth will make one cool spy.
