The actress took time out of filming the new series to attend the star studded event

Having left the period costumes back in London, Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery looked demure as she attended the Met Gala ball in New York last night.

The actress plays the role of Lady Mary in the ITV drama, who will be seen coming to terms with the death of husband in the new series due to return to our screens later this year. For her fashionable night out Michelle opted for a simple yet beautiful blue A line dress that fell just below her knees for the theme of punk.

Michelle, who walked the red carpet alone, accessorised her outfit with a pair of plain black heels, a black clutch and a intricate necklace that set her dress off beautifully.

The star's arrival across the pond comes after the news that she was going to lend her voice to a character in an episode of the popular cartoon show, Family Guy.

However, Michelle won't need to do any character research as she will be playing a character who will be an aristocrat in a British period drama, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Whilst Michelle will get to grips with her character on Family Guy, British actor Gary Carr will soon be getting into his role following the announcement that he will be playing the period drama's first black character, jazz player Jack Ross.

It is believed that Carr's character will be a "charming and charismatic young man".

Speaking about the show's new addition, Gareth Neame, Carnival Films’ Managing Director said of Carr:

"We are delighted to introduce another fantastic, dynamic character to Downton Abbey. His addition will bring interesting twists to the drama which we can’t wait for viewers to see in Series four”.
