Carrie Underwood has been confirmed to sing the new theme tune for NBC's Sunday Night Football' when it's new season starts later this year, replacing Faith Hill who has sung the track since 2007.

The 'Blown Away' singer will record a new version of 'Waiting All Day For Sunday Night,' which will be heard on the new season which starts in September. Fellow country singer Faith announced in February that she would be leaving the role at the end of the last season after six years.

Confirming the news in a conference call, Carrie said: “For me, it just always seemed like something that would be fun to do. To watch Faith do it week after week, to see that hype for the game, it's something that's so cool.”

The show's producer Fred Gaudelli has revealed that Carrie was initially the first choice to sing the song when it first started in 2006 but 'Blow Me (One Last Kiss)' singer Pink was chosen instead for the first season, singing 'I Hate Myself For Loving You.'

Carrie, 30, says that while she will keep the lyrics the same, she will change the intro to suit her own style.
