Renee Zellweger To Make Long-Awaited Movie Comeback In New Bridget Jones Threequel?

Star will have to gain 30lbs, according to reports

It was confirmed earlier this week that new Bridget Jones novel Mad About The Boy is set for publication this October, and today a report claims that Renee Zellweger has signed up to reprise the title role in the film adaptation.

The actress, who has stepped back from the limelight in recent years, will allegedly have to put on 30lbs for the part. She has not appeared in a movie since 2010's small-scale My Own Love Song.

According to the Daily Record, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth are also thought to have signed up to return to the franchise. However, Firth's rep has confirmed to EntertainmentWise that this is "not accurate".

It had previously been suggested that Zellweger would only sign if she did not have to gain weight again, but that particular whisper was quickly shot down.

Back in 2010 when the third movie was first rumoured, her rep insisted that she would remain "true" to the requirements of the role, telling Gossip Cop: "[The story is] so not true. Renee more than anyone would be true to the character."

Grant had previously confessed that he had yet to be blown away by the third movie's plans. The closing chapter of the trilogy was reportedly going with the working title Bridget Jones's Baby, and Grant said: “I’ve seen some scripts. They haven’t quite hit the nail yet, but they will. They’re working on it.”

On Tuesday, Fielding and her publishers confirmed that the novel will be released in October, but nothing has officially been confirmed about the film as yet.

EntertainmentWise has reached out to reps for Zellweger and Grant for comment on their commitment to the film.
