Downton Abbey Star Dan Stevens Has 'Shed Over Two Stone Since Leaving The ITV Drama'

Getting ready to hit Hollywood

Former Downton Abbey actor Dan Stevens has lost more than two stone since leaving the programme in January, as he prepares to hit Hollywood.

Dan admitted that he's had somewhat of a style overhaul since he left the successful ITV period drama at the beginning of the year, changing his hair colour as well as shedding the pounds as he takes on a new role.

"I've lost about 30lbs since New Year, which, in British terms, is about two to three chins. It was for a role," the actor confessed to chat-show host Graham Norton. "It’s always me, just different incarnations, different roles, different costumes and different sizes."

“As for the hair, it’s pretty much my natural colour. I went very dark for the last role but I’ll see where I go with it.”

And despite it being his bold decision to leave Downton Abbey, Dan confessed that he wasn't overly happy with the way his character Matthew Crawley was killed off but that the storyline was out of his control.

"Of course it was my decision, a very difficult one too, but it felt like the right thing to do. It was good to trust my instincts and go with it," he said of knowing the time was right to quit the global hit, before revealing: "I knew Matthew would die, but not like that necessarily."

“I think what emerged is that it’s an unwritten rule that you’re not supposed to die on British television on Christmas Day, and that, specifically, was not my doing," Dan insisted to the Radio Times. “I didn’t have any say in the manner in which he went. Ultimately, it was in the hands of Julian [Fellowes] and the producers.”
