The Wedding's Off! Kristen Wiig 'Turned Down' Bridesmaids 2

The actress admits saying no was 'an easy decision'

Kristen Wiig says she won't be walking down the aisle any time soon – at least not in the rumoured sequel to hit comedy Bridesmaids.

The 39-year-old comedienne turned down the opportunity to write a potentially lucrative follow-up to the 2011 movie she co-wrote with actress Annie Mumolo because it was only ever meant to be a stand-alone film.

“It wasn't a hard decision,” she told Harper's Bazaar. “We knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that's not my goal in my creative life.”

I don't: Kristen Wiig said no to Bridesmaids 2 (WENN)

Wiig featured as a regular on Saturday Night Live for years before establishing a name for herself in Hollywood, and she admits her casting in romantic comedies is a surprise given the quirky, off-beat characters she played on the weekly show.

“When people first started recognising me, they always gave me a second look because they didn't really know what I looked like,” she said. “For a long time it was my job to be an unattractive older woman or a creepy looking child.”

Kristen's new comedy Girl Most Likely sees her play a woman who stages a fake suicide attempt in a desperate bid to win back her ex – but her charade only places her in the care of her gambling addict mum, played by Anette Bening.

The film goes on general release on July 26.
