...he's already there according to midweek chart listings

It's been a while in the making, but Jahmene Douglas could be on course for the UK number one spot with his debut album, Love Never Fails.

The softly spoken star has been busy recording his first collection of tunes since missing out on last year's X Factor crown to eventual winner James Arthur.

No mean feat: Jahmene Douglas is at number one in the midweek chart rundown with his debut album, Love Never Fails (WENN)

And having timed the release so it comes out before the Teeside native releases his own long player later this year, Jahmene looks a dead cert to score his first number one, with midweek sales placing him at the top of the album chart.

His likely feat is more impressive given he's knocked Robin Thicke's new album Blurred Lines down to number two, while rap veteran Jay-Z is at number three with Magna Carta Holy Grail.

Raining on their parade: Avicii looks set to keep the number one spot in the UK singles chart, despite One Direction releasing their new single earlier this week

Meanwhile Avicii looks set to ruin One Direction's party by retaining the number one spot in the UK singles chart with Wake Me Up – currently 26,000 copies ahead of 1D's new single, Best Song Ever.

After what feels like a lifetime of chart dominance Robin Thicke's disco anthem Blurred Lines drops to number three, while John Newman's Love Me Again is at number four.
