As the number of suitors decreased, The Bachelorette's Desiree Hartsock looked close to finding her one true love but it appears the course of love didn't run smooth for Desiree on last night's show when the man she had fallen for decided to dump her.

Having gushed about Brooks Forester being the one for her, Desiree, who appeared on the show  told the cameras on the ABC show: "I can see my future with him. I love Brooks and I miss him every day that I’m not with him. If he got on one knee now and proposed to me I would definitely say yes."

However, it wasn't meant to be as the cameras soon turned to Brooks who could be seen trying to come to terms with his true feelings about Desiree. Admitting that he didn't like the idea of getting down on one knee and proposing to the TV sta,r who appeared as a potential love interest for Sean Lowe on the last season of The Bachelor, Brooks could be seen telling his mum:

"The idea of me proposing to her at the end of this makes me really uncomfortable."

As his mum told him not to go through with it if his whole heart wasn't in it, Brooks could be seen admitting that his decision was going to break Desiree's heart. "It’s emotional, it’s agonising", he said before telling the show's presenter of his true feelings.

"I don’t feel it…and I don’t feel like I am going to feel it. It’s heavy. It’s really consumed my thoughts all week. No matter what I do there’s going to be tears and heartbreak and it’ll be my fault. In spite of my best efforts I’m not in love with her, and you cannot force a thing like love."

With his mind made up, Brooks sat with Desiree and broke the news to her. Shocked and upset with his admission, Desiree said: "Why now, why now? Why, why? Stop it. I don’t know what to say, I love you. You’re the only one. You are breaking my heart."

Left in turmoil over Brooks' admission, Desiree sobbed: "It throws everything off having Brooks gone. Honestly, for me it’s over… I just want to go home."

Taking to Twitter during last night's broadcast of the episode, Desiree appeared to be in a reflective mood as she posted: "Hearts may break but spirits stay high.. Stay tuned next Monday for the finale! #happytears #thebachelorette"

Meanwhile, Sean Lowe who had tuned into the show, tweeted: "We both needed a stiff drink after watching bachelorette. @clmgiudici", with the photo of two milkshakes.
