Following from Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue's departure from The Voice earlier this year, will Will.i.am follow behind? Well it's an idea that has been speculated as a result of his link to American Idol.

With the search still on for Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson's replacements on American Idol, it has been speculated by The Hollywood Reporter that the show's bosses want to hire will.i.am for a possible role on the show, which could raise questions over his future on The Voice.

However, the Black Eyed Peas frontman isn't the only one who has been linked to the role as a judge on the show as it is thought that the show's bosses want Jennifer Lopez back on the show. Jennifer Hudson and current American Idol judge Keith Urban have also been added to the line up.

A rep for American Idol and a rep has been approached for comment, whilst a rep for The Voice has told EntertainmentWise that "talks are ongoing".

The allegations that Will could be joining American Idol comes after the talented musician recently refused to confirm or deny that he would be returning to the show.

Talking to The Telegraph's Mandrake, Will said: "I don’t know if I’ll come back to the show next year. I haven’t thought that far ahead.”

Whilst he stayed vague on his future on the show, the star spoke of Jessie J's decision to leave, admitting that he wasn't surprised when the Domino decided to throw in the towel.

He continued: "I wasn’t really surprised when I heard Jessie was leaving, but I was sad. She didn’t tell me she was going. I found out on Twitter, when everyone was talking about it.”

Despite The Voice ending last month, Will revealed that he has been very involved in helping his mentee on The Voice - Leah McFall - start her journey in the music business. He commented:

"When the show finished, my focus was just to finish Leah’s album. Leah didn’t win, but she’s going to be the real winner. I went to Los Angeles, called every big writer, and we locked ourselves in the studio for two weeks and recorded an album.

“I’m going to play it for the label this week. She’s the only one that had a top-five hit while the show was on.”
