Ellie Goulding Proud New Single 'Burn' Has 'Put Up A Good Fight' Against Lady Gaga's 'Applause'

The singer looks set to top the charts this week

Ellie Goulding is certainly a tough cookie after admitting that she is glad her new single 'Burn' has “put up a good fight” against hitmaking machine Lady Gaga and her new single 'Applause.'

The 'Anything Can Happen' songstress looks set to top the charts for the first time with her latest anthemic single 'Burn,' lifted from her latest album 'Halcyon' managing to fend off competition from Avicii's monster hit 'Wake Me Up,' Miley Cyrus' 'We Can't Stop' and Lady Gaga's comeback single.

Rather honestly, Ellie admits that while she is surprised by the positive response to 'Burn,' she is glad that she has raced ahead of Gaga with her track at number one on the midweek charts.

“It feels quite funny because I remember there was a similar thing when Lights, my album, was up against Gaga's and it somehow got to No.1 above her album, so it feels like that again,” Ellie said recalling the last time she was up against her pop rival.

Lady Gaga's new single 'Applause' isn't selling as well as Ellie and Katy Perry's tracks (WENN)

“It's her big comeback single and she hasn't released anything in a while. Hopefully mine will stay at the top. It's put up a really good fight.”

She continued: “It's mad. I don't put myself on as high a level as Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. I've still got a long way to go. I've toured with Katy and I met Lady Gaga when I won the Brit Award but they've both been an inspiration to me.”

It's not only Ellie who is soaring ahead of Gaga as Katy Perry is set to sell a whopping 450,000 copies in one week with her comeback single 'Roar.'
