Kanye West could have been gracing our TV screens as the newest member of the American Idol judging panel- if he hadn't had turned down a role on the hit talent show, as reports suggest.
According to an insider speaking to Us Weekly, Kim Kardashian's beau was offered the third and final spot on the new panel for the forthcoming 13th season, which has been left vacant following Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson's exits.
With Keith Urban returning to his judge's chairs and rumours that Jennifer Lopez has accepted a huge pay check to come back, Kanye was said to be top choice to take the vacant spot, but he wasn't interested.
"He didn't want to go that mainstream," the source claims. "He didn't want to lose any street cred. So he turned it down."

The inside source adds that Idol bosses also met with three other contenders, The Voice UK coach Will.i.am, Sean "Diddy" Combs, and Rodney Jerkins. In the end, though, their top choice is said to be songwriter and record producer Dr. Luke (real name: Lukasz Gottwald).
Us Weekly claim that the Katy Perry and Britney Spears collaborator is currently in talks to become the third judge.
Whilst there's been no official word on who will be joining Keith, the show's host recently Ryan Seacrest teased that an announcement isn't far off.
Speaking to E! News, the TV star revealed: "We're going to announce the judges very very soon and I think people will be excited about the names we'll have on the panel.
"This year there's been a lot of speculation about it, but we're honing in on that announcement and that decision, so I'm excited about that personally."
