Poor Ben Affleck isn't having the best week. After the Argo star was announced as the new Batman on Thursday night Twitter has exploded and not everyone is happy with the casting news. And it seems like that online backlash has extended to the bookmakers as William Hill reveal that they've changed their odds in the wake of the news.

Ben was confirmed this week to play the lead role in the 2015 Man of Steel sequel, taking over from Christian Bale as the caped crusader, and starring alongside Henry Cavill.

Speaking about Ben's role in the film which is due for release in 2015, BBC News reported Greg Silverman, Warner Bros President, saying: "We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill and then some." Director Zack Snyder also added: "I can't wait to work with him."

Not everyone is backing Ben though as William Hill reveal that punters are predicting that both the actor and the film will be a big flop!

The bookmaker has been forced to change the price of the 2015 film not being the highest grossing film of the year from 11/4 to Even money following the news that Ben will take the lead role.

“The backlash against Ben Affleck has started and we have hardly had a bet from anyone who thinks that the film will be the biggest of 2015,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

“We are surprised that Ben has not learnt from his friend George Clooney who cannot have many happy memories of playing Batman!”

Poor Ben, it's only been a couple of days and he's already been set up for failure!

Other odds released by William Hill include 5/2 that Ben is replaced for any sequel whilst there's also a 25/1 prediction that the actor's Good Will Huinting co-star and long-time best bud, Matt Damon could appear as Robin. Now that we'd like to see!

We reckon Ben could prove all the critics wrong, after all he's done it before, take a look back at the star's rollercoaster career from Good Will Hunting to Gigli to Batman here.
