Michael Jackson has been remembered by some of his peers on what would have been his 55th birthday yesterday, with the likes of Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber and Chris Brown paying tribute to the late star.
The 'Smooth Criminal' singer died at the age of 50 on June 25, 2009, after taking a lethal dose of the powerful anaesthetic propofol just weeks before he was due to kick off his 'This Is It' concert series at London's O2 Arena.
August 29 would have marked Jackson's 55th birthday and while he may be gone, he clearly isn't forgotten as some of music's biggest stars flooded Twitter with birthday wishes.

'Fine China' singer Chris Brown, who has made no secret that he has usedMJ as inspiration throughout his career, tweeted about his idol: “Happy Bday MJ!!!!! Love you and thx for inspiring us all. Undeniable talent!”
'Get Lucky' producer Pharrell Williams simply wrote: “Happy Birthday MIchael Jackson. #Legend,” along with a photo of a young Jackson.
Actor and singer Jamie Foxx described Jackson as a “great gift,” tweeting: “On this day 55 years ago, the world witnessed the birth of one of this earth's greatest gifts. Happy Birthday Michael Jackson. The greatest.”
P. Diddy wrote: “Happy Birthday to the greatest performer of all-time Michael Jackson!!! There's only one KING!”

Meanwhile, Timbaland announced earlier this week that he is working on a new project in which he is involved in producing new music featuring Michael Jackson's vocals, with the first single titled 'Chicago.'
“To even go bigger would be two kings working together,” Timbaland says in a clip posted on P. Diddy's Revolt TV.
“L.A. Reid came to my house and said 'I've got something big I want to do.' I can tell you the first single's going to be this song called 'Chicago,' but I'm going to set it up right. We talked on the phone."
He adds: "It's hard to bring anything out because now all you're going to hear is his voice over my music and now it's my turn. Watch me go."
Michael Joseph Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana on August 29, 1958. He was the seventh child of nine children to Joseph and Katherine Jackson and was born into a typical working class family. The city of Gary is 25 miles from downtown Chicago and is famous for its massive steel industry. It took its name from the chairman of U.S. Steel, Elbert H Gary, and is nicknamed 'City of Century' – we're hoping for ironic reasons. (Image: WENN.com)
