Chris Evans To Beat Out Matt Bomer For Fifty Shades Role After Charlie Hunnam Exit?

Captain America star is one of the new frontrunners

With the news that Charlie Hunnam is out of the big screen adaptation of EL James' bonkfest Fifty Shades of Grey, speculation is rife as to which hunk will replace him as Christian Grey. And in amongst fan favourite Matt Bomer and eye candy Ian Somerhalder, a new frontrunner has emerged - Chris Evans.

Captain America himself could be turning his hand to the role of Anastasia Steele's bedroom mentor judging by the latest bookies' odds.

A statement confirming Charlie's shock exit from the show was released over the weekend which explains that the actor's hectic schedule meant he couldn't commit to the adaptation of James' raunchy novel. The statement by Universal Pictures and Focus Features reads: "The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."

With Charlie out, Matt Bomer still remains the favourite but William Hill have placed Avengers star Evans as another frontrunner with Vampire Diaries hotty Ian Somerhalder also nipping at Bomer's heels.

The latest odds from William Hill have Bomer at 3/1 while Evans is at 5/1 and Somerhalder follows at 6/1.

Alex Pettyer is also up there, being offered at 7/1, while Ryan Gosling and Superman himself Henry Cavill are the most high profile bets at 7/1 and 8/1 respectively.

Meanwhile Charlie's Sons of Anarchy co-star Tom Arnold has also offered his services. Whilst Brit actor Charlie is too busy shooting the hit show to commit to Mr Grey, comedian Tom reckons he could be the man director Sam Taylor Wood is looking for.

"Charlie Hunnam dropped out of #50Shades because of his SOA shooting schedule but my SOA character is already dead so..." Tom joked on Twitter on Sunday.

At 54 years old the comedian and actor may be lacking in the looks (and stamina) department but at this rate he could be in with a good shot as the production scrambles to replace Charlie.
