Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer-Calvert has opened up about the heartbreaking diagnosis her daughter, Aliannah, recently received. The four year-old little girl has undergone countless tests and procedures, many of which were shown during the first four seasons of Teen Mom 2, and doctors have finally discovered what is causing her developmental issues.

Ali, who along with twin sister Aleeah was born in 2009 during her mother’s episode of 16 and Pregnant, has been diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of muscular dystrophy.

“The disorder affects her respiratory system and progresses the older she gets,” Leah recently told In Touch Weekly. “The bigger she gets and the more weight she gains, the harder it’ll be for her muscles to carry the weight.”

Although Ali has made great progress since her ailments were first discovered, Leah said that she will eventually have to use a wheelchair. Leah and her second husband, Jeremy Calvert, must sell their West Virginia home in order to find a more handicap-accessible space for Ali.

“We never gave up, and we never will,” Leah told the magazine. “We’ll do everything we can to make sure Ali has the life that she needs.”

Although they divorced in 2011, Leah remains close to her first husband, Corey Simms, who is the father of her twins.

“Ali’s condition has brought us all extremely close together,” Leah explained. “We have to stay strong for Ali, and things are going good.”
