Peter Parker/Spider Man made one important promise at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man: he would keep his girlfriend Gwen Stacy safe after her father died.
But Emma Stone, who plays Gwen, hinted at a grave ending for her character in the upcoming sequel.
Will Emma's Gwen Stacy live to see The Amazing Spider-Man 3? (Mr. Blue/WENN)
“I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen’s story has closely to the comic as possible," Emma told Ryan Seacreast on Jan. 29.
Ah yes, the actual comics. Without giving too much away, movie fans should fear the appearance of the Green Goblin in the sequel’s trailer.
One other force that may lead to an unhappy ending for Peter (played by Emma’s real-life boyfriend Andrew Garfield) and Gwen is the arrival of Mary Jane. Shailene Woodley shot scenes as Mary Jane for the second film, but the movie decided to push back her character’s introduction until the third installment.
Spider-Man will have his hands full in the upcoming sequel battling three potential villains: Electro (played by Jamie Foxx), The Rhino (played by Paul Giamatti) and the Green Goblin. Can Peter keep his promise to a dying man or will he sacrifice the man’s wishes for the safety of New York City?
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will release a new sneak peek during the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 2. The movie swings into theaters on May 2.
