Captain America has some stiff competition coming its way as Marvel Studios has confirmed that Thor will be getting a third instalment following on from the success of Dark World with writers Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle at the helm.

The first Thor sequel Dark World was released last year and saw Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston reprise their leading characters and it looks as though they could be making another appearance in the fantasy flick as it has been announced that there will be a third outing with Marvel's senior vice president of production Kyle and Yost taking writing credits.

“I am proud of Craig and have enjoyed working with him over these past years,” Marvel's head boss Kevin Feige said in a statement.

“His creative instincts have helped shape ‘Thor’ and ‘Thor: The Dark World’ at every level of the filmmaking process. The entire team at Marvel is very happy to continue collaborating with Craig as he continues as a screenwriter working with Christopher on the forthcoming chapter of Thor’s adventure.”

While a projected release date is yet to be announced, fans can catch Thor next in 2015 when Hemsworth reprises the character in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

If Hemsworth is on board for Thor 3 then production may have to wait a while as Chris recently released a statement revealing that he would be taking some time out to spend with his family as wife Elsa Pataky waits to give birth to their twins.

“I've been working solidly for a couple of years now, to the point where I have to slow down and spend some time with my family,” Chris said according to the Mail Online.

“There is a fear of saying no to things. It's bred into you. I get s**t sent to me and think, 'I should probably just take this. But now I try to say, 'Hold on, do you even like it? 'I do have a little control now. That's the transition - I'm not at the mercy of someone else so much. That's just as scary as it is liberating.”
