Cheryl Cole has expressed her disgust at being included on Superdrug's prototype 'Celebrity Weight Scales', asking for her name to be removed.

The product has since been completely axed, after attracting a storm of controversy for replacing numbers with the names of celebrities.

Stars set to be included ranged from Cheryl (8st), Kate Middleton (8st 6lb), Jessica Ennis (9st) and Ellie Goulding (9st 6lb) to Adele (14st), Queen Latifah (16st) and Melissa McCarthy (18st), with Beyonce somewhere in the middle.

Cheryl tweeted that she was "shocked" to learn about the scales, adding: "Pls do not include me on your scale. Girls should be worried about the number on their exam page not a weight scale ffs (sic)".

A Superdrug spokersperson has since clarified: "We created a prototype set of celebrity scales to move the conversation away from weight being perceived as a number, as we want to recognise that everyone is different.

"However, we've listened carefully to all our customers' comments and can assure them that the prototype celebrity scales will not be trialled in our stores."

A rep from eating disorder awareness group Beat told The Independent: "We know that eating disorders are serious mental illnesses with complex causes - but dieting is the highest risk factor leading to them developing.

"These scales are beyond belief - they prey on the very worst of celebrity culture to fuel a harmful obsession."
