Lorde has admitted she couldn’t be happier after winning her first ever BRIT Award tonight for International Female Solo Artists, revealing that she’s “really grateful” to receive the accolade while also sharing what it was like to perform at the ceremony with Disclosure.
The 17-year-old managed to beat the likes of Katy Perry and Pink to win the International gong following her extremely successful year which saw her top the charts around the world with debut single ‘Royals’ and release her first album ‘Pure Heroine.’

Speaking at a press conference after the star-studded bash at London’s O2 Arena, Lorde said: “Super good, you don’t expect to win an award when you’re up against Gaga and Pink so I’m really grateful and stoked.”
When asked about the female competition, the teen replied: “It’s always a good thing.”
The ‘Team’ singer also hit the stage during the night to perform a dance mash-up of her number one single ‘Royals’ with Brit duo Disclosure and fortunately, it all went off without a hitch despite the fact the two acts had only met up a matter of days ago.”
“I was very keen because I love those boys I think they’re so talented and I love working with young people because it’s a good thing to do and it went really well,” Lorde said of the collaboration.
“We met a few days ago, I flew in from Germany and we did a couple of hours.”
Other acts to perform at this year’s BRITs included Beyonce, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams so what did Lorde think of the talent? “Beyonce’s always amazing. Prince walked past me in the corridor and that was the craziest moment ever to share some air with Prince. No big deal!” she joked.
Of her tour plans for the UK, she added: “I love coming here in general so it would be a good idea to book some shows. I should be coming back this year to play.”
