Adele and Lady Gaga are up for the same award and some might say that it's the most coveted of them all - the bestselling artist in the world - but the competition is heating up and one set of fans are making it personal.
As the 'Someone Like You' singer overtook Lady Gaga in the bestselling ranks, having officially sold one in 10 of the records sold this year, Gaga's 'Little Monsters' have resorted to cruel jibes about the Londoner's weight.
The comments come as Adele is likely to supersede Gaga as the queen of the music scene and Gaga's fans are intimidated.
On Twitter, fans are posting crude jokes and cruel jibes about Adele. One popular post is: "Confirmed: Gaga will not be wearing her meat dress because she is afraid Adele will eat it."
Fans have gone so far as to make a spoof video of Adele, with an actress singing: "I'm bootyful in my own way because Arby's (an American eatery) makes nooo mistakes, I've got the right order, baby, I was born this weight."
As Adele was forced to cancel her US tour earlier this year because of a vocal cord operation in Boston, Lady Gaga's fans took the opportunity to attribute the cancellation to her lack of ability to sell tickets.
Upon hearing about the online bullying, an executive from Lady Gaga's label said: "Lady Gaga does not approve of bullying anyone for their physical appearance, it goes against everything she stands for. A tiny handful of fans may be letting her down."
Meanwhile according to the MailOnline, Adele's spokesperson decline the opportunity to comment.
