The mother of Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has revealed her daughter nearly quit X Factor over cruel cyber-bullying.

Jesy became a target of vicious comments about her weight earlier in the competition, and has been praised by critics and her co-stars for discussing the issue openly on the show.

Speaking to The Sun, Jesy's mother Janis said: "She called and she was so upset she could hardly even speak. She just managed to say 'Mum I want to go home'.

"She was in the X Factor house and I said, 'Right, I'll come and get you'. I was not going to let her suffer."

She added: "It was also because when Jesy was bullied at school I kept making her go back, without realising how awful it was.

"Comments on the internet were horrendous. People called her 'ugly'. I couldn't believe it."

Janis revealed that it was Jesy's bandmates - Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Ann Pinnock - who supported her through the taunts.

"Going in the band has been the best thing ever," she said. "The other girls have been such a massive support for her. When she was crying about the bullying they sat and comforted her. They have really helped her through this.

"She's become so much more confident. She would like to help youngsters who are victims of bullying like she has been."

Janis also revealed that she and the other three Little Mix mothers jokily refer to themselves as Big Mix.

Might we suggest Big Mix audition next year...?
