JK Rowling Confirms New Book: 'It's Very Different To Harry Potter'

She promises to 'explore new territory'

JK Rowling has announced that she is writing a new book, five years after the end of the Harry Potter series.

The author became a billionnaire off the back of the seven wizarding novels, but promises that her new book is aimed at the more adult market.

"Although I've enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series," she said in a statement. "The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry's success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher."

Though details on the plot, theme and title are currently unknown, it has been confirmed that Rowling will publish with Little, Brown and Company, a US-based company.

The Harry Potter books were published by Bloomsbury in the UK and Scholastic in the US.

The eighth and final film in the franchise was released last July, and was the top-grossing film of 2011 in the UK.
