Joanna Lumley To Direct Sky Christmas Comedy

A Christmas comedy directed by and starring Joanna Lumley was among the commissions announced today at Sky1’s autumn launch.

This is Lumley's first project for the channel, and it is hoped that her involvement will help Sky become suitable to an older, more upmarket audience.

“I’d like to work on getting some talent with gravitas," explained Stuart Murphy, the Director of Entertainment Channels.

"We've had the statesmanlike David Attenborough on Sky3D this year, and Joanna Lumley, I believe, is perceived in a similar way."

Joanna, 66, is one of Britain's best loved actresses, known best for her infamous character Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous, played  alongside Jennifer Saunders as Edina Monsoon.

It is hoped that Joanna's status as a British national treasure will help draw the channel some great Christmas ratings.
