While London celebrated the end of the spectacular Olympic Games last night with a star studded line up of some of the UK hottest and most beloved musical acts at the closing ceremony, poor Prince William missed out on the fun as he returned to duty in North Wales as a Search and Rescue pilot with the RAF.
It was left to his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge and brother Prince Harry to represent the royals at the glittering end to the games with the prince attending on behalf of the Queen, who two weeks ago parachuted into the Stratford stadium as part of a stunt with James Bond, Daniel Craig.
Take That, Muse, One Direction and the Spice Girls were among acts who entertained the athletes and the 80,000 strong crowd including the Prince and the Duchess who danced along to the tunes.
The young royals have made nearly 40 appearances together throughout the games and have been visible in their support for Team GB as they led the country in a tide of Olympic fever.
Speaking of the achievement of the athletes, Prince Harry said in a statement according to Now magazine: “I congratulate all the athletes who have competed. They have shown us that there are few boundaries to human endeavour.”
“They will stay in the hearts and minds of people all over the world for a very long time to come.”
