007 Star Britt Ekland: Bond Girls Don't Get Respect Now

'The Man With The Golden Gun' actress thinks too much is demanded of Bond's love interests

As Mary Goodnight she wowed alongside Roger Moore in 'The Man With The Golden Gun', and could be said to have been one of the great celebrities of her time due to her relationship with comedian Peter Sellers.

However former Bond Girl Britt Ekland wouldn't fancy the gig now because there's just not enough respect and too many demands on 007's love interests these days.

According to The Independent Ekland said: “I think it would be very tough to be a Bond girl today. There are so many demands that they can’t possibly fulfil them. And the media has changed.

“The media in those days were very polite, they respected us. But we were very willing to share, it was give and take.”

All the actresses who covet the role of being Bond's companion, including current Bond Girl Berenice Marlohe might care to disagree, however one example from the premiere of Ekland's movie perhaps illustrates the difference in the times.

Ekland described how no one noticed her arriving at the premiere red carpet, saying: “I walked in and no one took a blind bit of notice; they didn’t recognised me. The Bond PR people went beserk and told me to go back out again. They had to announce who I was. I have never curled my hair since.”

With photographers and minders everywhere these days, we can't imagine that happening in 2012!
