Thousands miss out as tickets for 2013 are snapped up in two hours

Tickets for 2013's Glastonbury Festival have sold out in less than two hours this morning. (October 7)

Thousands of music fans hit the phones and laptops when tickets for next year's event went on sale at 9am.

At 10.40am the organisers posted this message on the festival website: "After one hour and 40 minutes, tickets for Glastonbury 2013 have now completely sold out (in record time)."

"We would like to say an enormous thanks to everyone who managed to buy a ticket - but we'd also like to extend our sincere apologies to the many thousands who missed out."

" We're genuinely humbled by the sheer number of people who would like to come to the Festival, and we dearly wish we could have you all along. Sadly, that just isn't possible, which means a significant number of people have missed out."

"Tickets were being sold throughout the morning - but demand simply outstripped supply.  If you were one of those who managed to get a ticket, then we look forward to welcoming you to Worthy Farm in June."

The statement went onto confirm that there is "likely to be a resale of returned tickets in the spring" as in previous years.

Co-organiser of the festival Emily Eavis had previously announced a more efficient ticket system for this year. Speaking to NME Emily revealed: "We’ve got a new system which we’re trying out, and we’ve had assurance from See Tickets that it is going to work well and be much more efficient."

"All I can say is that we’ve done all that we can to try and make it as quick as possible and not have people hanging on phone lines for hours."

A quick look on Twitter this morning seems to confirm that many fans still experienced the familiar frustration:

@flashboy "Ah, the Glastonbury ticket website. It would be quicker and easier to form a band, record a crtically acclaimed album and start touring."

Did you get tickets? How easy/frustrating was your experience, let us know!
