UPDATE: The Fix Factor? Louis Walsh's Deadlock Drama Raises Questions

The judge was allegedly ordered to go into deadlock

By On

X Factor judge Louis Walsh has defended the claims that he purposely went into deadlock over the decision to send home either Rylan Clark or Carolynne Poole during last night's results show.

In a statement, the judge whose decision put the ITV1 talent show at the centre of allegations of a fix, explained:

"I was torn. I think Rylan's a great entertainer and Carolynne's a great singer.

"I couldn't make up my mind. So, finally, I decided that the fairest thing to do was to go to the public vote and Rylan had more votes than Carolynne. It was sad but it was the fairest option."

Having found themselves in the bottom two, both Rylan and Carolynne took to the stage to perform what their sing-off songs -  'One Night Only' and 'Everywhere I am, There You'll Be' respectively - before the judges made their decision.

Whilst Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh, gave straight answers over who they wanted to send home (both Gary and Tulisa voted for Rylan to go, whilst Nicole voted for Carolynne to leave), it was Louis who found the decision difficult.

Following the reports that Louis was allegedly ordered to go to deadlock by producers, a spokesperson has insisted to us that was never the case as it was his decision to take it to deadlock.

With the decision in deadlock, host Dermot O'Leary then announced that Carolynne had got the lowest votes from the public and therefore her journey into the competition had come to an end.

Having walked off stage when the decision was read out, Gary Barlow later branded the results a "joke" on the Xtra Factor before comforting Carolynne.

Responding to the controversy surrounding Carolynne's exit, a spokesperson for the show said: "Carolynne had the least amount of public votes so the public's choice to stay in the show was Rylan.

"Producers always chat to judges during the show."
