One Direction Knock Robbie Williams From Top Spot With UK Chart Double

One Direction have put an end to Robbie Williams' chart feat this week, topping both the single and album charts.

The five-piece soared to the top of the UK charts with their Ed Sheeran-penned single 'Little Things' while also taking reign of the album charts with their second album Take Me Home. Last week, 1D were said to be on course to secure the title of the fastest-selling UK album of 2012, however, their 155,000 units tally failed to topple Mumford & Sons who sold 158,000 copies of their album Babel in its first week of release.

The boys took to their Twitter accounts to thank fans for sending their single and album to number one, with Liam Payne writing: "Loveee coming on here and seeing all your coments on how much you all love take me home ,thanks every1 whos bought it:)."

"AMAZING NEWS DIRECTIONERS! Take Me Home is No.1!! AND Little Things is No.1!! Thanks SO much for your support everyone! 1DHQ," read a message from the group's main Twitter.

Heartthrob Harry Styles added: "Hello ...Thank you so much for all your support with this album. We can't believe the number ones today! Thank you thank you. Huge Love .xx."

'Little Things' managed to fend off competition from Bruno Mars whose new single 'Locked Out of Heaven' sits in second place, while Little Mix's third single 'DNA' was the other new entry at number three. Robbie Williams' former number one 'Candy' has ended its two-week reign, now at number six, while McFly's new single 'Love Is Easy' just made it into the top 10.

Meanwhile, Rod Stewart's new album Merry Christmas, Baby, while The Rolling Stones' record Grrr, while Williams' Take The Crown has slipped four places to number five.

One Direction are currently back in London after spending the week in New York where they performed to 15,000 fans on the Today show, where they also announced they will be releasing their first 3D movie in August, 2013.

The concert documentary will be directed by Super Size Me's Morgan Spurlock and will feature behind-the-scenes footage of their upcoming UK tour.
