Mexican singer believed to be dead after plane crashed on Sunday

Several Latin music stars have paid tribute to Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera who is believed to have died in a plane crash in Monterrey on Sunday morning.

The 43-year-old musician and Spanish TV star had been travelling with four other passengers, her publicist, stylist, make-up artist and attorney, in addition to two pilots, when it lost contact with air traffic controllers 60 miles after it had begun its flight.

With authorities confirming there was no evidence of surivors in the wreckage, many of Rivera's peers in the Latin music world have expressed their devastation at the loss of a woman who has been described as a "legend."

"This is sad. I'm a bit in shock. Much peace to her family," Ricky Martin wrote on Twitter. Gloria Estefan also shared her condolences, tweeting: "Our deepest sympathy to the family & fans of Jenni Rivera & those that accompanied her on what was to be her last voyage. Rest in peace."

Jennifer Lopez added: "So sad!! Praying for Jenni Rivera's children and family and the passengers families. Que dios los bendigan!! Descansen en paz..."

Pitbull tweeted: "I highly respected Jenni Rivera 4 being a gr8 performer but more then that being real & gr8 example 4 us all... May she Rip."

Other stars to pay tribute includes The View host Whoopi Goldberg who wrote: "R.I.P. Jenni Rivera,AMAZING & very talented woman My deep condolence to her family... Love her music," while Alicia Keys simply tweeted: "I'm so sorry."
