Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained' took its US bow this week at the Ziegfield theatre in Manhattan, with stars of all types coming out to see the director's blood spattered Western epic.

The New York Times described the movie, which stars Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson as having "more gore than an uprising in a dictatorship," after the premiere on December 11.

According to the paper, the director wants people to enjoy their time away from family this Christmas, telling the paper: “You spend some time with your family. You want to go to the movies and have a big experience,” adding:  “And I think our movie is definitely a big experience.”

The lucky stars who got a ticket to see Quentin do his thing on screen before its official release were suitably impressed by the movie.

Cameron Diaz said: “It was three hours of Tarantino perfection,”

While punk singer Patti Smith said: "It was awesome”  adding: "I want to go see it again at midnight with a theater packed full of crazy kids screaming.”

US audiences can see 'Django' on Christmas Day, UK audiences will have to wait until January 18th to see the movie.
