'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' and 'Les Miserables' are set to battle it out for an Oscar after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the final shortlist for the Best Make-up and Hairstyling category.
Also in shortlisted for the category is Kristen Stewart's 'Snow White and the Huntsman', with the film among the seven that will do battle to make the list of three nominees announced on January 10.
The Academy's make-up artists and hairstylists will decide the final three to progress through to the final round after viewing 10-minute reels from each movie on January 5.
It could be the closest K-Stew get to an Oscar, as none of her other movies this year are tipped for recognition.
However 'The Hobbit' will surely be an early favourite, with all the various creatures of Middle-earth requiring extensive prosthetics.
The Awards themselve are to be hosted by Seth MacFarlane on February 24 at the Hollywood & Highland Centre, the final seven in with a shot of going for gold on the night are: 'Hitchcock', 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey', 'Les Misérables', 'Lincoln', 'Looper', 'Men in Black 3', and 'Snow White and the Huntsman'.
