It would appear that James Arthur is definitely out of the running for the Christmas number one, with The Justice Collective's Hillsborough charity single outselling the X Factor winner by 23,000 units.

At the beginning of the week, it was a different story with James' debut single 'Impossible' beating his competition by 3,000 sales, however, the charity single 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' jumped ahead of James on Wednesday.

The Official Charts Company now reveal that The Justice Collective are way ahead of the game, now selling 23,000 copies more than James' single, meaning they will likely be crowned 2012's Christmas number one.

"The momentum is in favour of the Justice Collective, who now have a decent lead, having sold around 15% more than James Arthur at this point. But they have opened up their lead in just two days – it could easily be closed over the next two days," the OCC's managing director Martin Talbot said.

"The Justice Collective are favourites right now – but their lead is not unbridgeable by any means. With two days of sales left to be counted, it is all to play for."

The official Christmas number one will be announced on December 23. Check out the music video below...
