Royal Baby Prince George's Christening: All The Latest Details!

Speculation over baby's christening has already begun

Now Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William have taken their son Prince George of Cambridge home following the arrival of the baby on Monday, speculation has now turned to the little prince's christening which is likely to take place over the next few weeks.

The couple might have only just met their son, who was born on Monday at 4:24pm, but insiders have already started considering where George will be christened and who exactly will be his godparents.

Auntie Pippa Middleton and uncle Prince Harry have already been put forward as potential godparents for the little one. Both siblings, along with Kate's brother James reportedly met the baby at Kensington Palace on Tuesday night after they new family had left the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital where the Duchess was admitted on Monday morning at 5:30am in the "early stages," of pregnancy.

Traditionally christenings have been private affairs for the royals and taken place in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace where Prince William and Prince Charles as well as all the Queen's children were baptised.

Though Prince Harry was baptised at St Georges Chapel at Windsor, where Prince Charles' marriage to Camilla, Duchess of Cambridge was blessed in 2005, so this too could be an option. With the Queen set to leave for her annual summer break to Balmoral in Scotland on Friday, it's likely the service won't take place until after she returns in September.

One thing that we can be sure about is what the baby will be wearing, the 1841 Honiton lace and satin christening gown that has been used for over 30 royal christenings.

First worn by Queen Victoria's eldest son Edward, the actual gown was replaced by a replica created by the queen's senior dresser Angela Kelly in 2008 after it was deemed too fragile to use. No doubt Prince George will be donning the same elegant robe for his ceremony.

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess has insisted that with the royal baby only a few days old it's "too soon," to confirm any details of the christening, with insiders claiming the new parents are enjoying "getting to know" their son.

The couple are currently relaxing at Kate's parent's home in Bucklebury, Berkshire after leaving Kensington Palace yesterday afternoon following a visit from the Queen and are rumoured to be staying there for the next few weeks at least.

"This is now private and quiet time for them to get to know their son," a palace rep told Us Weekly going on to confirm the couple and baby were "all doing well" and "enjoying time bonding with George and being around family".
