Saturday Night Live head writer Colin Jost has just been announced as the brand new co-host for the show's Weekend Update, filling the shoes of Seth Meyers, who will be leaving next month to take over Jimmy Fallon's spot on the Late Night show.
Jost has acted as a writer for the NBC sketch comedy show since 2005 but he'll now being moving from behind the scenes to join SNL co-host Cecily Strong, who currently presents the Weekend Update segment with Meyers.

The new move means Jost will be filling the seat of Meyers, whose last appearance on SNL will take place on February 1 after which he'll be presenting the Late Night show when its current host Jimmy Fallon moves over to The Tonight Show.
Confirming the exciting news, a post on SNL's official Twitter page reads: “Big congrats to our head writer, @TheColinJost, who will join @cecilybecily at the @SNLUpdate desk as @sethmeyers' successor!! #SNL.”

Jost became one of the youngest writers to join the team nine years ago and he was promoted to head writer in 2012. He's also the third head writer to take fill a seat on the Weekend Update with Tina Fey and Meyers having preceded him.
While he has mainly featured behind the scenes on SNL, Jost may look a little familiar as he is currently dating Parks and Recreations star Rashida Jones whom he met at Meyers' wedding in September.

The new addition to the team marks yet another change for the spoof show after they announced their first African-American full-time cast member Sasheer Zamata.
