True Detective: Brad Pitt Lined Up To Replace Matthew McConaughey For Season Two?

Is the Money Ball actor the right choice to take over?

Matthew McConaughey is certainly having a great start to 2014, not only did he pick up an Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyers Club but HBO series True Detective has been the runaway smash hit, so whoever takes over in the lead role for season two is going to have some pretty big shoes to fill.

Rumour has it that Brad Pitt is the first choice to take on the second season of the show and with McConaughey and Woodly Harrelson the acting partnership that made the first season such an explosive him it's not out of the realms of possibility that Pitt could be eyed as the replacement.

An apparent show insider said a spot in the second season was his to turn down, HollywoodLife reported: “Brad’s name has come up many times, it’s just a matter of what his other commitments are.

“It’s the show everyone wants to be on, because the writing and the roles are just so exquisite and complex. Brad has tight relations with HBO — he teamed up with Ryan Murphy last year to produce the HBO movie The Normal Heart. I know everyone would be thrilled to have him on board.”

The first season saw McConaughey and Harreslon play Rust Cohle and Martin Har, two detectives investigating a 17 year-old murder, pedophile ring.

We know for sure that Rusty and Martin won't be back after season one, but what do we actually know about season two?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto: "I am still fleshing it out. The basic idea: Hard women, bad men, and the secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system. I was well on my way in the writing but there’s been a lot noise and work around the end of the first season that got in the way."

Does that sound like something Pitt could slip into? The star has been behind the camera more than in front of it of late having won an Oscar for 12 Years A Slave but will be seen flexing his acting muscles again in World War II tank movie, Fury.
